My name is Mr. Snell, and my mission is to reinvent health class.
I know, it seems rather remarkable to take on such daunting task. Slightly misguided even. Well, I'm here to change the way we think about school.
For over 100 years, education has operated relatively the same. Bell rings - students sit and listen - complete a worksheet - take a test - bell rings - students sit - nice even rows - memorize words, dates, and people - take a test - bell rings...
While the world passes by, education sits stagnant collecting dust and criticism.
My class will not.
In my classes, we are more than teachers - we are facilitators, coaches, and mentors.
The individuals in my room will be more than students - they will be learners, creators, and producers.
My learners will have discussions, answer critical questions, work in groups to solve real-world problems. Learners will have voice and choice in how they learn.
In my class, we will work together to determine the outcomes of our learning.
And while the world is changing classrooms must stay relevant.
We need to reinvent the way we see school.
